Innovative research with impact
At VUB, we focus on research that addresses societal challenges. We combine in-depth expertise with an interdisciplinary approach, because complex problems are rarely solved within a single field. Our researchers work in academic freedom. This freedom is essential to remain critical and to create space for new insights. Brussels serves as our urban laboratory, where we test our knowledge in practice. Our projects grow out of long-term collaborations with companies, governments and other social actors. In this way, we turn groundbreaking research into real-world solutions - for example in energy, health, inclusion or artificial intelligence.

VUB's public programme
Creating more impact in society – that is what VUB wants to do, by sharing its scientific knowledge with everyone who believes science, critical thinking and dialogue are an important first step to change the world. We do this through a broad programme for various target groups in Brussels and Flanders: from lectures to exhibitions, from books to plays. We can count on our scientists, alumni and numerous partners to create this inspirational programme.
